Denise Pipitone, the parents are civil parties in the trial against journalist Ilaria Mura
26/04/2023
Piera Maggio and Pietro Pulizzi, parents of Denise Pipitone, who was kidnapped in Mazara on September 1, 2004, when she was just under 4 years old, have become civil parties in the trial at the Marsala Court, where Rete4 journalist (program “Quarto Grado”) Ilaria Mura is accused of personal aiding and abetting.
According to the Marsala prosecutor’s office, which summoned her to trial, after the reopening of the investigation into the disappearance of little Denise, on June 18, 2021, Mura allegedly warned Gaspare Ghaleb, ex-boyfriend of the child’s half-sister, Jessica Pulizzi, about the presence of bugs in his car. In the trial against Jessica Pulizzi (later definitively acquitted of complicity in Denise’s kidnapping), Ghaleb was sentenced to two years in prison for giving false information to the public prosecutor. However, on appeal, the statute of limitations was triggered.
According to the prosecutor, Mura allegedly warned Ghaleb that he was being wiretapped, urging him to move away from the car where the bugs were placed, a suggestion the young man followed so much so that the conversation, recorded by investigators without their knowledge, was only partially recorded. On June 18, 2021, upon getting into the car, Ghaleb also allegedly loudly mocked the police so that those intercepting him would hear. Now, in the latest hearing of the trial against Mura, Denise Pipitone’s parents, in addition to becoming civil parties with the legal assistance of lawyer Giacomo Frazzitta, also testified in court.
Piera Maggio recounted that on June 17, 2021, while she and her husband Pietro Pulizzi were taking a drive along the Fata Morgana seafront in Mazara, they happened to see on their right, in a secluded spot next to one of the bridge pillars connecting to the SS115, Ilaria Mura and Gaspare Ghaleb, and on the opposite side to the left, a bit further away, a car with cameramen. This circumstance raised doubts for Denise’s parents, given that Ghaleb was questioned six times during the investigation from September 2004 to 2006.
He would then be questioned again on July 7, 2021. A long interrogation, lasting about six hours, as part of the new investigation opened into the kidnapping of Denise Pipitone. Finding the situation rather strange, the couple took photos and videos that will be submitted. Their doubts were also due to the fact that, according to Maggio, Mura, on the Quarto Grado program, would reveal even unofficial news and details of sealed documents, such as when, Maggio recounts, during the new investigations, the former home of Anna Corona on via Luigi Pirandello was visited.
And a person who had made statements to prompt investigators to search the house (statements that no one other than the Prosecutor’s Office and lawyer Frazzitta could know) contacted lawyer Frazzitta to warn him that Mura was outside their house. For this reason, a certified email was sent to the Prosecutor’s Office highlighting the fact that the person in question complained about the incident, especially since their statements were not known. After Piera Maggio, Pietro Pulizzi was also heard, confirming his wife’s statements. At the next hearing, Ilaria Mura will be heard. And in addition to the public prosecutor and the judge, she may also have to answer questions from the civil party’s lawyer.
