Merry Christmas Denise, wherever you are......

MERRY CHRISTMAS DENISE, WHEREVER YOU ARE .....♥♥

It is Christmas every time you smile at a brother and reach out your hand. It is Christmas every time you remain silent to listen to another. It is Christmas every time you do not accept those principles that relegate the oppressed to the margins of society. It is Christmas every time you hope with those who despair in physical and spiritual poverty. It is Christmas every time you humbly recognize your limits and your weakness. It is Christmas every time we love, every time we give. It is Christmas when the most beautiful things in life are not seen with the eyes but felt with the heart. It is Christmas every time we let love be born in our hearts! Warm wishes for a Merry Christmas. Best wishes to all of you from us! www.cerchiamodenise.it

Denise: Trial, fourteenth hearing.....

ANNA CORONA'S TESTIMONY POSTPONED TO THE NEXT HEARING

Mazara del Vallo, 06/12/2011 - Today, during the trial for Denise's kidnapping, two of the three witnesses called to testify in court were heard. The testimony of Anna Corona has been postponed to the next hearing, which will be held on February 14, 2012, at 10 a.m. Anna Corona's lawyers, the same as those of her daughter Jessica Pulizzi, and Anna herself, have already stated that she will not exercise the right to remain silent and will therefore testify.

DENISE: FOURTEENTH HEARING, TODAY IN COURT ANNA CORONA, MOTHER OF JESSICA

Mazara del Vallo, 06/12/2011. Today, at the Marsala Court, the fourteenth hearing of the trial for the kidnapping of Denise will take place. The defendants are her stepsister Jessica Pulizzi, 24 years old, charged with kidnapping a minor, and her ex-boyfriend, the Italian-Tunisian Gaspare Ghaleb, 26 years old, charged with giving false testimony to the prosecutors. Three witnesses are expected to be heard in court, including Anna Corona, mother of the defendant Jessica Pulizzi, who is also under investigation for complicity in the kidnapping of a minor in another line of inquiry. Anna Corona's position is still unknown; she may decide to exercise her right not to answer or to testify about the events that occurred.

"Spreading incorrect information does not help Denise, it complicates her search"

(COMMUNICATION) Mazara del Vallo 23/11/2011 - Piera Maggio kindly asks that every professional in the field, journalist, criminologist, commentator, etc., be able to speak about the Denise case only if they know the details of the story well, thus avoiding the spread of incorrect or misleading information about the fate of the little girl. Personal opinions, since they are not consistent with the real facts established, do not concern the case itself, so it is recommended not to spread them. "Spreading incorrect information does not help Denise, does not help the missing child, and complicates the search." Thank you (Piera Maggio)

It was in fact the long battle fought by her mother, Piera Maggio. ART. 605 paragraph 3 NEW OFFENSE "KIDNAPPING OF MINORS" (which expands article 605 of the penal code) ART. 574-bis NEW OFFENSE "REMOVAL OF A MINOR" by one of the two parents and the retention of the child abroad, introducing article 574-bis to the penal code. - OFFICIAL GAZETTE NO. 170 of July 24, 2009 - Ordinary Supplement no. 128 - Amendments made to the penal code art. 605 and new insertion art. 574-bis

IT IS TRULY SHAMEFUL AND UNCIVILIZED the behavior of those who hide behind lies, indifferent to the life of a little girl, even declaring that the statements read and signed by themselves in front of the authorities, a few days after Denise's abduction, are false. THERE ARE NO WORDS TO COMMENT ON SUCH BEHAVIOR, but one thing I am certain of is that in this case Denise, many fathers, mothers, and grandparents, will carry on their conscience throughout their lives, the fate of a little girl named DENISE PIPITONE. "I WONDER IF SUCH PEOPLE CAN BE CALLED COWARDS" (Piera Maggio)

08/11/2011 - DENISE TRIAL, indictment for perjury requested for the two witnesses. The witnesses cited were the spouses Grazia Marrone and Nicasio Pinta, nurses and colleagues of Maria Rosa Pulizzi (sister of the child's biological father, Piero Pulizzi), head nurse in the Psychiatry department of the Mazara del Vallo hospital. They denied having any relationship with the latter, but were contradicted by phone records. Both, pressed by the prosecutor and the lawyers, resorted to many, too many, "I don't remember"s, to the point that lawyer Giacomo Frazzita asked the Prosecutor's Office to intervene by initiating proceedings for perjury.

I am prevented from loving my daughter»

"For too long my little girl has been deprived of the right to love her mother, and I have been deprived of the right to love and cuddle my daughter. I hope that bureaucracy does not slow down justice, I hope that the new president of the Marsala court does not allow this to happen." This was said today by Piera Maggio, mother of little Denise Pipitone, on the sidelines of the hearing of the trial 08/11/2011, for the kidnapping of her daughter which took place on September 1, 2004.

Denise: thirteenth hearing of the trial

DENISE: THIRTEENTH HEARING, AFTER A LONG BREAK THE COURTROOM SESSION RESUMES.

Mazara del Vallo, 08/11/2011. Today, the thirteenth hearing of the trial for the kidnapping of Denise will be held at the Marsala Court, with the defendants being her stepsister Jessica Pulizzi, 24 years old, for kidnapping a minor, and her ex-boyfriend, the Italian-Tunisian Gaspare Ghaleb, 26 years old, for giving false testimony to the prosecutors. The resolution of the legal case depends on the magistrates' ability to shed light on the events that took place after that tragic September 1, 2004, when the little girl was kidnapped in front of her home. Over the years, Piera Maggio, Denise's mother, who has never lost hope of hugging her daughter again, has fought tirelessly for the search but expresses her frustration at the lengthy judicial process: "For too long my daughter has been deprived of the right to love her mother, and I have been deprived of the right to love and cuddle my daughter. I hope that bureaucracy does not slow down justice, and I hope that the new president of the Marsala court will not allow this to happen."

Denise: tomorrow the girl will turn 11 years old

Tomorrow Denise, the little girl, will turn 11 years old

Mazara del Vallo, 25-10-2011. Tomorrow, October 26, Denise will turn 11 years old. It has now been seven years since that tragic September 1, 2004, when she was kidnapped in front of her home, and the city of Mazara del Vallo, in collaboration with numerous important associations, intends to remember the missing little girl with an event for children to be held in Piazza Macello at 9:00 am at the premises of the "Luigi Pirandello" school. In fact, in recent weeks a prize competition has been announced for fifth grade and first-year middle school students with the theme "Waiting for Denise." The event is viewed positively by Piera Maggio, Denise's mother, who comments, "I consider every activity in favor of Denise very positively, and especially in this case I appreciate the name given to the event, because here we do not want to commemorate a person, but to strongly ask that she return home because we are certain that she is alive." In the afternoon at 5:00 pm, a meeting will be held in the "31 March 1946" council chamber on the theme "Where is Denise?", with the presence of Piera Maggio, the family's lawyer Giacomo Frazzitta, and General Luciano Garofano, former commander of the RIS of Parma. The numerous activities carried out in support of the search for minors over the years have contributed over time to providing Mrs. Maggio, still the mother of a missing child, with specific training that is shaping into a consultancy activity for these particular types of activities, and today this will be the role she will play during the conference. Today, a hearing in the trial against Jessica Pulizzi, Denise's half-sister, was supposed to take place, but due to the impediment of one of the members of the panel, it will be postponed.

WAITING FOR DENISE

MAZARA DEL VALLO - On October 26, 2011, Denise Pipitone turns 11 years old. She has now been missing from home, from her loved ones, from her dearest things, for 7 years. All of us from the Mazara del Vallo Service Clubs—Lions, Fidapa, Fildis, Rotary, and Kiwanis SATIRO—have come together so that this day is dedicated entirely to Denise.

Let's make sure that the city continues to fuel hope and interest so that Denise can be reunited with her loved ones.

On October 26, 2011, we too have the desire to be there.

"No man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child" (Abraham Lincoln.)

Program:

Competition for 5th grade elementary and 1st grade middle school classes.

The students may write an essay, create a drawing, or a poem on the theme "waiting for Denise" (final submission deadline 19/10/2011).

A special commission made up of experts, teachers, and representatives of service clubs will evaluate the works so that the best composition in each area can be awarded.

Each child who wins in their respective compositions will receive a voucher of 100 euros, to be spent on books or materials related to student activities.

The award ceremony will take place during the conference to be held at the council chamber of the Municipality of Mazara del Vallo on October 26, 2011 at 5:00 pm.

The speakers will be Mrs. Piera Maggio, lawyer Giacomo Frazzitta, legal representative of the Maggio family, the councillor for legality Riccardo La Rosa, and General Luciano Garofano, former commander of RIS Parma.

During the morning, an event will be held with the "L.Pirandello" school at the premises in Piazza Macello at 10:30 am.

Denise: Piera Maggio's support for Irina Lucidi

Denise: Piera Maggio's support for Irina Lucidi

(INFORMATION) Mazara del Vallo, October 8, 2011. The mother of Denise Pipitone, the little girl who disappeared in Mazara del Vallo on September 1, 2004, wishes Mrs. Irina Lucidi, mother of the twin girls Alessia and Livia, "never to lose hope despite the negative circumstances regarding the fate of her beloved daughters." "She must find the strength to go on," comments Piera Maggio, "and I hope that she too will be able to fight and obtain new legislative measures for Switzerland regarding kidnapping." In Italy, it was Mrs. Maggio herself, thanks to her tenacious fight to protect all children, who in 2009 obtained the inclusion of two new articles in the penal code, new types of crimes, "kidnapping of minors" art. 605 paragraph 3 and art. 574 bis of the penal code "abduction of a minor," which did not exist before, and which today, thanks to meetings at the European Parliament in Brussels for the promotion of an international task force for the search for missing minors, are also being proposed at the international level. Italy, and perhaps soon Switzerland as well, would therefore be, within Europe, the only countries to have enacted laws that specifically protect minors in cases of kidnapping without the purpose of extortion. http://www.cerchiamodenise.it/associazione/nuovoreato.pdf

"DENISE LAW" renamed 'Denise', in honor of Denise Pipitone, the little girl who disappeared from Mazara del Vallo on September 1, 2004. In fact, it was the long battle led by her mother, Piera Maggio, that convinced the Minister of Justice, Angelino Alfano, to address the issue of the crime of child abduction, which was not provided for by the penal code. Supporting Piera Maggio were her lawyer Giacomo Frazzitta and Hon. Barbara Mannucci, the first signatory of the security package amendment.

ART. 605 paragraph 3 NEW OFFENSE "KIDNAPPING OF MINORS" (which expands article 605 of the penal code) provides that, in the case of kidnapping of a minor, "the penalty of imprisonment from 3 to 12 years" applies if the child is between 15 and 18 years old. If the minor is 14 years old or younger or if "he/she is taken or kept abroad," a penalty of 3 to 15 years applies. The penalty provided, without the new offense, ranged from "6 months to 8 years."

If the perpetrator causes the death of the kidnapped minor, the penalty of life imprisonment shall be applied. The penalties provided for in the third paragraph are also reduced by up to half for the defendant who makes concrete efforts.

ART. 574-bis NEW CRIME "REMOVAL OF A MINOR" by one of the two parents and the retention of the child abroad, which introduces article 574-bis to the penal code.

"Anyone who removes a minor from the parent exercising parental authority or from the guardian, taking or keeping the minor abroad against the will of the said parent or guardian" is punished "with imprisonment from 1 to 4 years," explains the text. Furthermore, if the act is committed against a minor over 14 years old and with their consent, "the penalty of imprisonment from 6 months to 3 years applies." If one of the two parents is the perpetrator, the conviction entails suspension from exercising parental authority.

LETTRE OUVERTE AUX PARENTS D'ENFANTS DISPARUS OU VIOLES.

Chers Parents,

The person writing to you is a mother who suffers like all of you. My pain is that of having lost a little girl, taken away by a vile hand that tore away my little one's rights and separated her from the affection of her loved ones. I am addressing you, parents who have suffered the abduction of a minor child or who have endured the tragedy of a disappearance followed by the murder of your little one. Only those who have experienced and continue to experience the same dramatic pain every day for seven years, no longer allowing me to live, only they can understand that my cry is a cry of real suffering. I have always tried to fight to bring my daughter home and to learn the truth about what happened to her. You, like me, have suffered the greatest wrong a person can know, that of seeing your own children violated for no reason. A blind and perverse evil that struck them and that we would have wished had struck us instead of those poor creatures. But every day, we are here, surviving them or desperately searching for them. I would like to ask all of you to give meaning to the injustice you have suffered and to form a committee for the promotion of an international task force for the search for missing minors. I have worked hard with my collaborators to try to create new horizons and to never lose hope, so today I ask you to be united and to overcome the resistance that a simple parent may encounter in their desperate attempt to change things. Consider, if you will, the evil that has struck us as a very rare disease: if we do not unite, we will remain isolated cases, drops of water, lost in our pain. On the contrary, by joining our forces, we can do a lot and that is what I am asking of you. Come closer to me. I await your response with confidence.

Je vous salue et vous embrasse affectueusement.

Piera Maggio.

Open letter to the parents of missing or violated minors

Open letter to the parents of missing or violated minors

Dear parents,

The person writing to you is a mother who is suffering, just like all of you.

My pain is that of having lost a daughter, taken away by an ignoble hand that trampled on my little girl's rights and took her away from the love of her family." I turn to you, parents who have suffered the abduction of a minor child or who have endured the tragedy of disappearance followed by the murder of your little one. Only those who have suffered and continue to suffer the same dramatic pain that, for seven years now, has not allowed me to live, can understand that mine is a cry of true suffering.

I have always tried to fight to bring my daughter home, and to know the truth about what happened to her. You, like me, have suffered the greatest wrong a person can endure, that of seeing your children violated for no reason. A blind and perverse evil that struck them and that a thousand times we would have wished had struck us instead of our children... but today we are still here, surviving them or desperately searching for them. I would like to ask all of you to give meaning to the injustice you have suffered by helping me to establish a committee for the promotion of the international task force for the search for missing children. I have worked hard together with my collaborators to try to create new horizons and never abandon hope, therefore today I ask you to be united and to overcome the resistance that a single parent encounters in their desperate attempt to change things. Consider, if you will, the evil that has struck us as a very rare disease: if we do not unite, we will remain isolated cases, drops in the ocean and lost in our pain.

Instead, by joining our forces we can do a lot, and this is what I ask of you. Get in touch with me, I look forward to your reply with confidence.

I greet you and warmly embrace you.

Piera Maggio.

What is the international task force for missing children searches?

It is a new idea of intelligence specifically aimed at cases of missing minors. It is an operational group made up of people competent in different fields and professions, capable of creating and implementing initiatives for the search for missing minors. It is international as it works outside the competences and limits of a single state.

Is it composed of police forces from different countries?

No, on the contrary, these are professionals from different fields who are able to carry out research plans outside or in a complementary way to the police forces.

What would be the headquarters of this organization?

The city of Brussels, in Belgium.

Are the parents of missing minors called to be part of this organization?

Generally speaking, no, parents are called to promote the development of this body, supervising its functions (one thinks of a role of guarantee for the proper functioning of the institution)

Why is it necessary to support this initiative?

Because it is a complex project that is currently not supported by any of the member states of the European Union, but which can be developed with the commitment and collaboration of all those interested and supporters.

Why should this type of organization prove to be better than others in research?

Because it is established exclusively for this purpose, and to improve the organizational approach in missing persons cases. There are almost no organizations at the European level that make use of the collaboration and support of those directly involved (the parents) in the searches. The ability to develop solutions to problems commonly experienced by all parents of missing minors is essential in identifying and proposing possible solutions to the member states of the European Union.

DENISE: the mother asks for the support of other parents of missing minors

(INFORMATION) Mazara del Vallo, September 1, 2011. Today is the first of September, a sad anniversary for the town of Mazara del Vallo in the province of Trapani. In fact, seven years ago little Denise was kidnapped in front of her home without leaving any trace. The search for the girl has not led to a positive outcome so far, even though the hope of receiving news about her is always in the hearts of all Italians.

The mother, Piera Maggio, who has tirelessly organized initiatives that over time have made the child's facial features known throughout the world, launched an important proposal to European states a year ago for the establishment of an international task force for the search for missing minors. The appeal was followed up with a meeting a few months ago at the European Commission in Brussels. Today, after various preparations, Denise's mother is making an appeal to all European parents who have suffered the abduction or a tragic act of violence against their minor children, so that together they can create a promotion committee for the launch of the task force. The initiative aims to bring together in a single instance all the requests made by many European parents over the years in order to achieve concrete results and a more pragmatic approach to the issue of missing or violated minors. "I believe that it is in the interest of those who have suffered the tragedy of a child's disappearance to try to work for a common goal," comments Piera Maggio, "not to raise public awareness, which is already very attentive to these cases, but to carry out targeted initiatives by joining everyone's forces."

In an open letter on the blog cerchiamodenise.it, Denise's mother therefore asks for the collaboration of those "who have suffered and are suffering the same dramatic pain that for seven years now has not allowed me to live anymore".

Denise, Piera Maggio: "Seven years have passed and I am increasingly embittered"

Mazara Del Vallo (Trapani), 31/8/2011 - "Seven years have passed since my daughter disappeared, and for me, since then, it has always been September 1st. I love Denise more than my own life and no one will ever be able to separate us." Piera Maggio, the mother of Denise Pipitone, who was kidnapped at the age of 4 on September 1, 2004, in front of her home in Mazara del Vallo, speaks with a broken heart. "My bitterness," she continues, "is that the people involved were not investigated immediately after the incident, a circumstance that could have allowed Denise to be found in a short time. Instead, I was not listened to. Now there is a trial that is proceeding slowly and with a truth yet to be established." Tomorrow, Piera Maggio will use the website cerchiamodenise.it to launch a proposal to parents across Europe of missing or violated minors to form a European committee that can also deal with the search for children. "We parents," she concludes, "always remain on the sidelines with respect to certain initiatives organized by others, so it is good that we take action ourselves. Missing children should be remembered all year round and not only on particular dates such as those of kidnappings."

Denise case, Piera Maggio: ''Saddened by lies told in court''

12/07/2011 - "I have noticed a substantial lack of respect towards me, which in some cases turns into real verbal attacks by the defendants. It seems that no one realizes they are facing a mother who has been searching for her daughter for seven years. In the hearings, everything now seems mechanical, bureaucratic, the human side has been lost, that is, that we are talking about a little girl who was kidnapped and torn from her parents." This was said to (Adnkronos) by Piera Maggio, the mother of little Denise Pipitone, who disappeared without a trace in Mazara del Vallo (Trapani) on September 1, 2004.

During a break in the twelfth hearing of the trial for the kidnapping of the little girl underway at the Marsala Court, mother Piera vents. "The investigators are doing their job as best as they can," she says, "and even ordinary people have always shown me their support. Obviously, the more time passes, the more there is a natural decline in attention, but what hurts me the most is hearing the lies that are told in court."

In the trial, Denise's stepsister, Jessica Pulizzi, is charged with kidnapping a minor and her ex-boyfriend Gaspare Ghaleb is charged with giving false testimony to the prosecutors. Since the beginning of the proceedings, Piera Maggio has never missed a hearing.

"Coming here - she admits - wears me down and every time at the end of the day I feel exhausted, hurt, because I feel immense pain seeing these people lie, tell stories that are regularly disproved by evidence and records, behave disrespectfully and uncivilly towards a mother who suffers every day from the absence of her daughter. But I - she concludes - cannot give up and I never will until the truth comes to light."

Postponed to the next hearing on October 25, the examination of Anna Corona, the mother of Jessica, Denise's stepsister, accused of the kidnapping, and of the other daughter Alice Pulizzi.

Too many contradictions from Maria Rosa Pulizzi, sur...

Denise, the body shop worker recounts "I saw a woman fleeing at great speed"

July 12, 2011 - In the trial for the kidnapping of Denise Pipitone, who disappeared from Mazara del Vallo on September 1, 2004, a 50-year-old body shop worker, Andrea Gitto, also testified this afternoon at the Marsala court. On the day of the abduction, he was working outside his workshop on Via della Pace, not far from the scene of the kidnapping, when he saw a "dark blue metallic Ford Fiesta, driven by a blonde woman with a reddish hue, aged between 35 and 45, coming from Via Mongiolisi.

He crashed into the curb at the corner with Via della Pace while trying to turn at high speed. Then he continued on the dirt road." Questioned by prosecutor Giacomo Brandini, he revealed that the first part of the license plate contained the letters AF, while specifying that "this is not a memory, but a deduction based on the year that model of Ford Fiesta was registered."

A circumstance disputed by Piera Maggio's lawyer, Giacomo Frazzitta, who stated that the body shop owner, if anything, could have deduced the year of registration from the license plate and not vice versa. The witness was shown a photo album of women, but he did not recognize any of them. The body shop owner then continued: "After the accident Maria Rosa Pulizzi (Pietro's sister, Denise's biological father, ed.) stopped with an Audi 80 and told me: 'If you see Pietro, tell him that a little girl has disappeared.' And she continued on via della Pace."

Words that contradict the version given this morning by the woman who had said she learned about the child's disappearance from the mechanic. The examination of Anna Corona, Jessica's mother, Denise's half-sister accused of the kidnapping, and the other daughter, Alice, has been postponed to the next hearing.

*** She contradicted herself several times today in court, the witness Maria Rosa Pulizzi, sister of Piero Pulizzi, Denise's biological father. Her statements are inconsistent with those given by another witness, Gitto Andrea.

Denise: the father's sister testifies, "I didn't know she was his daughter" Marsala (Trapani), 12/7/2011 - At the Marsala Court, a new hearing in the trial for the kidnapping of Denise Pipitone. The witness Maria Rosa Pulizzi, sister of Piero Pulizzi, Denise's biological father, felt ill during a break in the hearing. After the intervention of the 118 medical staff, the woman, head nurse in the Psychiatry department of the Mazara del Vallo hospital, felt better and continued her testimony: "On September 1, 2004, I was on duty at the hospital. My brother called me to ask if I could find out if a certain Denise Pipitone had arrived at the Emergency Room, whom I didn't know at the time. I checked and told him there was no record. Then, when I left, just before 3 p.m., I saw helicopters flying in the sky. I thought it was a raid, but someone told me that the daughter of a friend of my brother's was missing. It was my mother, about 15 days after the child's disappearance, who told me that Denise was my brother Piero's daughter." Lawyer Frazzitta, civil party attorney, pointed out that there were several phone calls between the witness and her brother on the afternoon of September 1, but unfortunately wiretaps had not yet been arranged. During the testimony, both prosecutor Giacomo Brandini and the civil party lawyers highlighted contradictions with what was stated, during the investigation phase, by other witnesses.

Andrea Gitto was also heard as a witness, the body shop owner whose workshop is about 100 meters from where Denise disappeared and who saw a car fleeing: "On September 1, 2004, between 12:15 and 12:30 I was in my workshop and I saw a dark blue metallic third series Ford Fiesta arrive, with license plate initials perhaps AF, and I deduce this from the year this type of car was registered, 1996, driven by a woman who hit the curb and entered a dirt road. I had stepped outside because I heard a revving engine and smelled something burning. The woman driving had short blonde hair to her shoulders with a reddish tint. The car came from via Mongiolisi and hit the corner with via della Pace, which has several exits, also onto via Salemi, along the side of the cemetery and towards the highway junction. At first, I thought the driver was feeling ill. I followed her for a while with my moped, but then the dust cloud prevented me from seeing. There was only a woman inside the car. Then, I saw Maria Rosa Pulizzi who, driving her Audi 80, stopped and said to me: 'Did you see Piero? The little girl?...' but I didn't quite understand her words. I realized what had happened when I went home for lunch." At the end of the hearing, lawyer Giacomo Frazzitta, civil party lawyer for Piera Maggio, Denise's mother, stated: "This is the first time Gitto indicates AF as the initials of the license plate of the blue Ford Fiesta. A Ford Fiesta, of another color, was at the time the car of Anna Corona, Jessica Pulizzi's mother. Corona's sister was also the owner of a Ford Fiesta, blue in color but, according to the witness, a different model. The hearing has been postponed to October 25.

TWELFTH HEARING: TODAY IN COURT ANNA CORONA, THE DEFENDANT'S MOTHER

DENISE: TWELFTH HEARING OF THE TRIAL:

TODAY IN COURT ANNA CORONA, THE MOTHER OF THE DEFENDANT JESSICA PULIZZI

Mazara del Vallo, 07/12/2011. Today, the twelfth hearing of the trial for the kidnapping of Denise will be held at the Marsala Court, with the stepsister Jessica Pulizzi charged with kidnapping a minor and her ex-boyfriend Gaspare Ghaleb charged with giving false testimony to the prosecutors. In the courtroom is Anna Corona, the mother of the defendant Jessica Pulizzi, who was questioned by the magistrates to verify the facts she stated during the investigation. In another parallel proceeding, Anna Corona is herself under investigation for Denise's kidnapping. At this stage of the trial, the woman may choose to speak or exercise her right to remain silent. In addition to Anna Corona, other witnesses will be heard. "This trial has increasingly aligned itself with a mechanical system of justice," comments Piera Maggio, Denise's mother, "while the emotional attention towards a little girl who has been missing from home for years is steadily fading, and from a mother's point of view, this causes further pain."

Denise case: D'Assaro, "she was hidden in a restaurant"

Marsala (Trapani), 29/6/2011 - "After being kidnapped, and before being transferred to Palermo, the girl was taken to the Lo Squalo restaurant in Mazara. My ex-wife, Rosalba Pulizzi, told me this." This was stated, in response to the civil party lawyer Luisa Calamia, by the multiple murderer Giuseppe D'Assaro, who was heard before the Marsala Court in the trial for the kidnapping of little Denise Pipitone. In the restaurant, which according to D'Assaro was owned by an aunt of his ex-wife, and therefore also a relative of Jessica Pulizzi, the girl was allegedly hidden until late at night. The restaurant ceased operations in 2008.

DENISE: ELEVENTH HEARING OF THE TRIAL: TODAY IN COURT THE CROSS-EXAMINATION OF GIUSEPPE D'ASSARO

Mazara del Vallo, 29/06/2011 - Today at the Marsala Court, the eleventh hearing of the trial for the kidnapping of Denise will take place, with the stepsister Jessica Pulizzi charged with child abduction and her ex-boyfriend Gaspare Ghaleb charged with giving false testimony to the prosecutors. In the courtroom, the civil party and defense lawyers will cross-examine the informant Giuseppe D'Assaro. In the previous hearing (held on 25/05/11), D'Assaro answered questions from prosecutor Giacomo Brandini and lawyer Frazzitta, legal representative of Piera Maggio, stating that he had learned from his ex-wife Rosaria Pulizzi that the child was in Palermo and that Jessica had taken her: "the child was taken to Palermo by car by my wife Rosaria Pulizzi together with Jessica." Furthermore, addressing Piera Maggio, D'Assaro declared, "I don't know where Denise is. So far I have told the truth, but everything else I said after 2007 is nonsense, such as the claim that the child was dead; I don't know, I've never seen her, I only said it because I wanted to cooperate. I wanted to clarify this today because the child's mother is present." Finally, the informant added: "I know nothing about your daughter, believe me, I apologize and ask forgiveness if I dared to say those things, even serious ones; if you want to know where Denise is, you have to ask Piero Pulizzi and his daughter." In addition to Giuseppe D'Assaro, two other witnesses cited will be heard today: Rosaria Pulizzi, D'Assaro's ex-wife and under investigation, and Maria Rosa Pulizzi; both are aunts of Jessica Pulizzi. The next hearing will be held on July 12.

Denise: kidnapped by Jessica Pulizzi, this is what emerges...

Denise, the star witness recants in court "I don't know if she's dead, I don't know where she is"

The serial killer Giuseppe D'Assaro testifies at the trial for the disappearance of the little girl from Mazara. He confirms that he learned some things from his wife, who is the sister of Denise's biological father, but denies her statements that had caused a sensation.

"When Denise disappeared I was in prison in Catania. I learned the news on TV and then my wife, Rosaria Pulizzi, told me about it during a visit. In a letter, moreover, my wife told me 'I'll talk to you later.' Then, during a leave from prison, my wife told me that the 'little girl was in Palermo' and that 'Jessica had taken her.'

She didn't tell me who had brought her to Palermo. When I tried to find out more, she told me: 'I can't ruin my brother,' referring to Piero Pulizzi (Denise's biological father, ed.).

The serial killer Giuseppe D'Assaro speaks before the Marsala court, which is dealing with the kidnapping of little Denise Pipitone, the girl abducted in Mazara del Vallo on September 1, 2004, when she was just under four years old. The defendant is Jessica Pulizzi, 24 years old, the (paternal) half-sister of the kidnapped girl: she is accused of complicity in the kidnapping of a minor. Also on the defendants' bench is her ex-boyfriend, Gaspare Ghaleb, 26 years old, an Italian-Tunisian, accused of making false statements to the public prosecutor.

"I saw that my wife was afraid to speak, even though she told me that she would later tell me how things had gone, but then she didn't." This is how D'Assaro's account continues: "My relationship with my ex-wife ended when I told these things."

D'Assaro is a controversial figure. In December 2007, he stated that "Denise had died after being given tranquilizers" and then had been "thrown into the sea off Palermo." Today, in court, he recanted: "I don't know where Denise is. So far I have told the truth, but everything else I said after 2007 is nonsense, like for example the fact that the girl was dead; I don't know, I never saw her, I only said it because I wanted to cooperate. I wanted to clarify it today because the girl's mother is present." Addressing Piera Maggio, D'Assaro added: "I know nothing about your daughter, believe me, I apologize and ask for forgiveness if I dared to say those even serious things; if you want to know where Denise is, you have to ask Piero Pulizzi and his daughter." The cross-examination of Giuseppe D'Assaro will continue on June 29. Denise Pipitone kidnapping, suspect accuses aunt and stepsister

A blunt question asked by lawyer Giacomo Frazzitta, who represents the civil party of Piera Maggio, "where is Denise", triggered a lengthy clarification from Giuseppe D'Assaro, 50 years old, in the trial for the kidnapping of Denise Pipitone, who disappeared at the age of 4 from Mazara del Vallo on September 1, 2004.

"I don't know where Denise is," admitted the man who in the past had confessed to having had a role in the murder of the little girl. "So far I have told the truth, but all the other things I said after 2007 are nonsense, like for example the fact that the girl was dead; I don't know, I never saw her, I only said it because I wanted to cooperate. I wanted to clarify this today because the girl's mother is present," the witness continued.

D'Assaro was married to the sister of Piero Pulizzi, Denise's biological father. In the proceedings, the defendants are 24-year-old Jessica Pulizzi, Denise's half-sister accused of complicity in the kidnapping of a minor, and her ex-boyfriend Gaspare Ghaleb, who is only charged with making false statements to the prosecutor.

D'Assaro, charged with a related crime because he previously confessed to the concealment of little Denise's body, appeared in court today as an assisted witness, following a decision made by the Court.

Addressing Piera Maggio, he added: "I know nothing about your daughter, believe me, I apologize and ask for forgiveness if I dared to say those things, even serious ones; where Denise is - he continued, addressing the civil party - you have to ask Piero Pulizzi and his daughter."

During his testimony, Giuseppe D'Assaro also recalled that "the girl was taken to Palermo by car by my wife Rosaria Pulizzi together with Jessica." The cross-examination of Giuseppe D'Assaro will continue next June 29, while other testimonies are currently underway. Initially, he had refused to answer any questions: "I was declared unreliable by the prosecutor's office and therefore it is useless to answer."
