"Our community once again comes together in support of Piera Maggio and Piero Pulizzi. Given the Covid situation, we wanted to organize this meeting with Denise's parents, lawyer Frazzitta, and Bishop Mogavero, with only a limited presence of media operators, to reaffirm our closeness with the ever-living hope of one day being able to embrace Denise again, who is now considered everyone's daughter."

This was said by the mayor of Mazara del Vallo, Salvatore Quinci, during the meeting organized in the La Bruna Hall of the Jesuit College, on the day of the 17th anniversary of the kidnapping of Denise Pipitone, which took place on September 1, 2004, in Mazara del Vallo.

"Who knows, speak up!" reiterated Bishop Monsignor Domenico Mogavero, who wanted to show with his presence, prayer, but also concrete initiatives, his affection and support for Denise's parents.

Lawyer Giacomo Frazzitta, prompted by reporters, sent a message to the investigators: of esteem and appreciation for the new impetus given to the investigations, but also a request that the family be kept updated on the developments and evolution of the investigations, even if in compliance with confidentiality. "I met Denise's cousin and playmate. She is the same age as Denise and is about to leave for the Erasmus project. This opportunity to grow and study in peace was denied to Denise. And someone should come and explain to us why this happened. We cannot," said Frazzitta, "rule out even the worst of hypotheses, but in these 17 years no evidence has emerged in this sense and therefore we are convinced that Denise is alive and we will leave no stone unturned to find her."

Finally, Piera Maggio, in thanking the authorities and people in Mazara and from all over Italy and the world who continue to show her affection, did not hide the pain that has marked these 17 years and the disappointment for the lack of a positive solution to the case so far. However, together with Piero Pulizzi, she expressed feelings of hope, wishing that "this may be the last anniversary of Denise's kidnapping that we remember! We are convinced that Denise is alive," she said, "and we will fight until the end to be able to embrace her again."
